Selkirk College Fine Woodworking Building Momentum for Year-End Show

Students in the Selkirk College Fine Woodworking Program have been building skills over the last nine months and are now putting finishing touches on some remarkable projects that will be on display at their highly anticipated year-end show taking place May 26 to 28.

More than 200 high school students descended on the Selkirk College Silver King Campus in Nelson on Friday to get a closer look at gateways into trades training.

Selkirk College opened its Silver King Campus shop doors to high school students from around the region during the annual Made For Trades day. More than 200 young people came out for tours of the shops, introductions to the options and workshops that provided a feel for the future.

Amber Beckjord put an exclamation mark on her bright future last week when the 17-year-old Selkirk College student captured a gold medal at the BC Skills Competition in Hairdressing.

At only 17, Selkirk College Hairdressing student Amber Beckjord is a rising star in the industry. With a superstar uncle providing inspiration and a work ethic that has produced a 4.0 GPA, the young woman is poised to do great things in the industry she loves.
