Exploring Mountain Culture
What does “mountain culture” really mean? How do residents understand and relate to this concept? Does living in the mountains have a significant impact on our lives? Is our mountain culture at risk?
The Teaching and Learning Institute
and Rural Development Institute
at Selkirk College partnered with college instructors and school teachers across the region to explore this topic. Students from Grade 4 to college interviewed residents about their views and then built creative expressions on the meaning of mountain culture.
A Mountain Culture Forum was held to share the results from hundreds of interviews, view the gallery of students’ creative expressions, and participate in a focus group discussion on the future of our mountain communities.
