As the Selkirk College Saints get settled into the new semester and prepare for the upcoming British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL) season, the team is inviting supporters to take some swings in its annual fundraising golf tournament.
The sixth annual Selkirk College Saints Golf Tournament takes place on September 15 at the beautiful Castlegar Golf Club where teams of four will battle it out in a scramble format event that places emphasis on fun.

“It’s a perfect warm-up to our season and a great way to connect with those who support us,” says Saints head coach Dave Hnatiuk. “It’s about having an enjoyable day on the course and bringing together our players with the community. The funds raised at the tournament will help us focus on success when the season gets underway.”
The tournament is open to all skill levels, with the team scramble format helping take the pressure off the individual. Though bragging rights are always on the line, there is plenty of prizes up for grabs that have little to do with skill. The tournament is $90 for non-Castlegar Golf Club members and $60 for members. The entrance fee includes golf, a shot at prizes and a delicious dinner prepared by the crew at The Nineteenth.
Exhbition Schedule Includes Three Home Games
Away from the golf course, the Saints will start training camp in the first week of September with veterans and new arrivals getting in shape for the 2019-2020 BCIHL campaign. The Saints will play three exhibition games in September at the Castlegar & District Recreation Centre against the Rossland Senior Warriors (September 21), SAIT Trojans (September 27) and Portage College Voyageurs (September 28). The regular season begins on October 11 and 12 when the Saints travel west to take on the University of Victoria Vikes and Vancouver Island University Mariners.
“This is the time of the season where there’s great anticipation for coaches, players and fans,” says Hnatiuk, who joined the Saints this past spring and will be heading into his first season as the Selkirk College bench boss. “It’s going to be an exciting season, we have a great group returning and some solid new additions who will give local hockey fans plenty to cheer about in the next few months.”
All golf tournament participants will get free tickets for the Saints exhibition games as part of their registration. Get more information and register for the annual Selkirk College Saints Golf Tournament at gosaints.ca.
