On March 28, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Shambhala Music & Performance Hall listen to Brendan Watts (rock, instrumental) and Shannon Sargent (blues, rock).
In this showcase Brendan Watts and his crew will use the lyrics and sounds of classic rock music to tell a story; it’s a story full of downs, ups, vulnerability, and passion. In his time at Selkirk College, Brendan has grown as a guitar player and an overall musician. This performance will also be a showcase of his compositional and band leading skills. Prepare for a show that will surprise you and have you on the edge of your seat. Rock on.
Shannon knew she wanted to be a singer at the age of 3. She discovered this passion while performing songs in front of her older sister and listening to grunge rock and hair metal music with her older brother. Her path to Selkirk College’s Contemporary Music & Technology program was not a linear one. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree on a hockey scholarship at Elmira College, in Elmira, NY, then studied to earn her practitioner’s license in Traditional Chinese Medicine in Nelson BC. Finding her way back to her passion, Shannon is currently studying vocals as a performance major at Selkirk.
She has put together a tasty and hard-hitting set of rock, grunge and blues tunes and ballads. She pays tribute to some of her favourite bands, including Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Led Zeppelin. After graduating in the spring, expect to find Shannon giving acupuncture treatments by day, and belting rock tunes by night.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and admission is by donation.
